FAQ (EN)
What exactly is a vacuum prosthesis?
A vacuum, or suction fit, is achieved by making an accurate replica of your own head using a 3D scanner. The scan is then sent to Freedom Wigs in New Zealand and it’s used by master craftsmen- and women to make a silicone ‘second skin’ or cap. Once the cap is placed on your head, the inside air escapes and the cap creates a gentle suction that grips your skin and will not be released until you break the suction with your finger. You will never have to use tape, clips or glue again!
Are vacuum wigs hot to wear?
Your Freedom Wig silicone cap is vapour permeable and adjusts to match the exact temperature of your body. Vapour permeability is achieved by using medical grade silicone that has the ability to pass perspiration (vapour) through the cap. This keeps the wearer comfortable and secure. Vapour can actually dissipate right through the cap. Realistically it will most likely add a slight level of additional heat since it is like an extra layer of skin on your head, but it is not itchy or uncomfortable to wear.
How long does the Freedom Wig last?
This ultimately depends on the wearer. There are many people that have Freedom Wigs for 2-4 years before a repair is required. If properly maintained and looked after a Freedom Wig will also look after you for years. It is easy to forget your hair is there, but remember that excessive touching and playing with your hair can limit its life time. Talk with me and I will explain all that you will need to understand to get the very best from your Freedom Hair. Please note we do not recommend that you sleep in a Freedom Wig as this can cause extreme damage very quickly.
100% unprocessed virgin human hair is hair that has never been permed, treated, coloured, or processed by chemicals. It is hair that has been carefully cut off from the original grower into a ponytail.
Unprocessed hair can be of any ethnic origin. Freedom works with each individual to find the colour, curl and length needed for them. The hair that is used in Freedom Wigs is rare and beautiful. Freedom gets their hair from the general public of the world, so it is as variable and beautiful as everyone who has growing hair. Some colours and textures are very difficult to get, so please talk with me to understand what is available.
Freedom Hair is made using only 100% unprocessed virgin human hair. All of the cuticle layers are intact and facing the same direction which make the hair look and move like natural, growing hair.
What is 100% unprocessed virgin human hair?
Eventually you will need repairs to your hair. You must always contact me as soon as you notice any type of problem. I can then help you assess the problem and decide whether we need to send it back to New Zealand to be assessed by the experts there. Once assessed I will contact you and we can discuss your needs and what your repair will mean to you.
What if I need a repair?
Yes, your wig can be both high-lighted and low-lighted, as well as all-over coloured by a professional stylist/colourist. Be aware that colouring etc. is at the wearer’s risk. You will see many Freedom wearers do prefer to highlight and low light their hair, and the effects that are achieved are beautiful.
Can my wig be coloured?
I do not recommend you sleep in your wig. Lying on your hair every day can cause ‘Mechanical Breakage’ (talk with me and I will explain what this is). Having a baby at the hospital? No problem, but just don’t get into the habit of it. Your wig will thank you.
Can I sleep in my Freedom wig?
Yes you can! Your hair will move and look very ‘natural’ after getting wet at the pool or beach. The suction of the vacuum fit will not budge in water. Because of the colour matching of your scalp to the colour of the hair’s cap, your hair will really look like it’s growing from your head.
Can I really swim in my Freedom wig?
Yes, Freedom provides a 1-year warranty on workmanship. The warranty does not include mechanical breakage, which is breakage that occurs due to improper use or care.
