About Myself

My name is Elvira Wassenaar. I am a Dutch national, but I have been living in Luxembourg since 2014.

I started losing patches of my hair (alopecia areata) at the age of 15. However, my hair did grow back after the age of 18 but unfortunately after my twins were born in 1998, I lost all my hair for good. I saw many specialist doctors but at one point I realized my hair loss was permanent. This was a big shock and it took quite some time for me to get used to the idea and more importantly, to accept it.

I started wearing hats but at some point I wanted a more permanent solution, so I purchased my first synthetic wig in a shop in The Netherlands.

This wig was very itchy and uncomfortable and I often said to myself when I looked in the mirror that it ‘wasn’t me’.

Apart from that, synthetic wigs don’t last long, no matter the quality and after 3 months they start looking worn and they frizz. So I ended up buying four wigs per year.  I also experienced the wigs falling off my head when doing sports. I even used tape, but when your scalp gets sweaty, even tape doesn’t hold it in place and I often felt very embarrassed. So after a while I also stopped doing sports. I didn’t even ride my bike anymore. I felt I was not the person I used to be. This lasted for 17 years.

I feel very blessed that I have a lot of support from my fabulous husband and our three wonderful children.

One day I was fortunate enough that I read a newspaper article mentioning Freedom Wigs from New Zealand. I contacted the Independent Agent closest to Luxembourg, and she introduced me to the wig that changed my life!

These wigs are extremely comfortable, with a soft silicone base and a beautifully done implantation. When the wig arrived and I started wearing it, I finally started feeling that I looked like ‘me’ again! My self-esteem soared and for the first time in many years I was proud of my hair. People who don’t know ask me which shampoo I use and who my hairdresser is!

During the day I don’t even realise that I am wearing a wig. I am finally back on my bike, I swim, I have even been skiing with a helmet without being afraid that when I take off the helmet my wig comes off as well! I can run, walk in windy circumstances, I am finally back to not just looking like ‘me’ again but also feeling like ‘me’ again!

I am so happy with it that I decided to start introducing this brand to Luxembourg, Belgium and The Netherlands (Benelux) as an Independent Agent. As I know what it feels like to suffer from Alopecia, I want to help as many people as possible to experience the same feeling as me. I also want to turn something negative into something positive. My goal is to help each of my clients to regain confidence and bringing back the sparkle into their lives!

The silicone used in the cap is medical grade, to ensure your comfort. This material is hypoallergenic, resists bacterial growth and is easy care. Its comfort comes from the fact that it is completely smooth and moulded to your head. There is no itching from hair ends to contend with.

Security: no sliding or dislodging. Freedom Wigs are very secure and enable people to live life without the worry of their wig coming off unexpectedly. Personalised: tailored specifically to your needs. When ordering your Freedom Wig from Liberty Wigs, you are welcome to specify the type of hair you want and even a particular style. Finding a picture is a great way to communicate your ideas, maybe a photo of you in the past or a totally new style from a magazine.

Styling, care and maintenance: Upon arrival, the vacuum fit wig is ready for cutting and styling. As these wigs act as natural hair, we try to use and encourage the use of gentle and conditioning styling products. We recommend you wash and condition your wig every 7 days and clean the inside of the silicone cap every time you wear it.
